The RDSP Resource Centre

The RDSP Resource Centre was launched in November 2010 to assist people with disabilities and prolonged medical conditions in accessing and maximizing the RDSP. The RDSP Resource Centre’s social purpose is the pursuit of financial security for Canadians with disabilities.

We realized success in 2007 when federal Finance Minister Flaherty committed to implementing a plan to assist people with disabilities and their families to secure their financial futures.  On December 23rd, 2008 – after two frenetic years of working with federal officials – the Registered Disability Savings Plan was launched and Canadians began to open RDSPs and save for their futures.

Two and a half years later, 43,000 people with disabilities have opened RDSPs and saved over $250 million. Our estimate is that nearly 500,000 people should qualify for the RDSP.

The RDSP now exists – the hard work now begins: getting the word out and assisting people to access the RDSP.  We launched the RDSP Resource Centre in November, 2010. One of our first actions was to form a relationship with PLAN to recognize the small group of families that supported the work to bring an RDSP to Canada.  Our goal at the RDSP Resource Centre is to raise awareness, provide assistance in qualifying and to make further reforms so that the RDSP works better for people.
